Start date: Sunday, November 1, 2026. Daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. that morning and clocks fall back an hour, so you start the month with an extra hour and a clean slate. The challenge runs 30 days, through Monday, November 30 (Cyber Monday).
What is No-Spend November?
A no-spend month means buying only what you've decided is essential (housing, bills, groceries, medicine, gas, debt payments) and pausing everything else for 30 days. It's a short reset: you see where money leaks out, and you go into Black Friday (Friday, November 27) with cash set aside instead of a full cart.
Simple challenge rules
- Write your essentials list before Nov 1. If it's on the list, buying it isn't breaking the challenge. Keep it short and specific ("groceries from my list", not "food").
- Pay every bill as normal. No-spend never means skipping rent, utilities or minimum payments.
- Use up before you restock. Pantry, toiletries, craft supplies: finish what you have first.
- Write down urges instead of buying. Add the item and price to your urge log. If you still want it on December 1, decide on purpose.
- Plan the big days. Thanksgiving (Nov 26) groceries go on the essentials list. For Black Friday and Cyber Monday, set a budget first (try our Black Friday budget calculator) or keep them as no-spend days.
- Slip-ups don't end it. Note it, then make the next day a no-spend day.
- Move the money. At the end of each week, move what you didn't spend to savings, debt or a holiday fund.
